Horse Passport Legislation
The Law, (Horse Passport Regulations 2004), requires all horses,
ponies and donkeys in the UK to have a passport, and for that passport
to be kept up to date.
New legislation introduced in February 2005, means that horses must
be accompanied by their passport when being transported under the
following circumstances:
- For the purpose of competition
- For the purpose of breeding
- In or out of Great Britain
- To other premises where a veterinary medical product is to be
administered
- To the premises of a new keeper
- To a slaughterhouse
- For the purposes of sale
1st July 2009 deadline
If you are applying for a horse passport after 1st July 2009 your
horse will need to be micro chipped by a veterinary surgeon.
You can apply for a horse passport from The Horse Passport Agency Ltd.
The standard £21 passport service issues passports as quickly as
possible (currently taking 8 Days (approx.) + Postage).
The Fast Track service costs £35 (£21 + £14) and is for those owners who
are due to compete or sell their horse and cannot wait. A correctly
completed Fast Track application is processed within 1 working day and
the passport returned to you by Royal Mail Special Delivery via their
next day service.
How To Apply
1. Standard service, please enclose:
- Completed standard application form. (Check your application
carefully as incomplete or incorrect applications have to be
returned).
- Daytime contact number so we can call you and take the £35
payment over the phone.
2. Fast Track service, send your application form to The Horse
Passport Agency Ltd by Royal Mail Special Delivery (before 9am service).
Write Fast Track Service clearly on the envelope and address it to:
