tips and advice, to develop effective techniques for loading your horse.
The service includes loading, unloading and travelling short
distances.

Tailor made packages, to suit your individual needs, can be arranged.
We can incorporate a number of horses into a session so if you are a

We
routinely carry amongst the usual items of equine tack, a Zilco Lycra
Pacifier.
The pacifier is a mesh eye half cup lycra hood with elastic touch tape
straps with clips for adjustment. As its name suggests it has a
remarkable calming effect on horses. It works by restricting the horse's
vision to the rear and the side, like a sophisticated blinker.
The equine eye is the largest of any land mammal. Its visual abilities
are directly related to the animal's behaviour, the fact that the horse
is a flight animal.
Both the strengths and weaknesses of the horse's visual abilities should
be taken into consideration when training the animal to load and travel,
as an understanding of the horse's eye can help to discover why the
animal behaves the way he/she does in various situations.
Not widely used in the Europe, pacifiers are popular in
Australian racing circles and we have found that they work better than
blindfolds and significantly reduce stress levels (for both horse and
handler) during difficult loading situations. |
